The son of a Circuit Judge, Sir Anthony Evans went to Bassaleg Grammar School in South Wales, then to Shrewsbury School. After National Service in the Royal Navy, he studied and was called to the Bar by Gray's Inn in 1958. He practised commercial law from 4 Essex Court (now Essex Court Chambers), was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1971, and became a Recorder in 1972. He was made a Queen's Bench Judge in 1984, was nominated to sit in the Commercial Court, and was the Judge In Charge in 1991 and 1992. He also served as Presiding Judge on the Wales & Chester Circuit from 1986 to 1988. He became a Lord Justice of Appeal in 1992. After retiring from the English Bench in 2000, Sir Anthony practised as a commercial arbitrator, sat as a Judge of the Court of Appeal for Bermuda, and was President of the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts from 2005 to 2010.
