The Commercial Court Administration

The administrative work of the Commercial Court is performed by two offices.

The Commercial Court Listing Office is responsible for organising hearings for trials and for other applications. It has a Senior Listing Officer and a Listing Officer, who liaise with parties or their legal representatives and with the Commercial Judges to fix hearing dates and times and to allocate Judges for hearings. The Listing FAQs page contains more information about the Listing Office’s work.

The Admiralty & Commercial Registry deals with issuing of claim forms, application notices, and other documents, with payments of fees, and with other administrative matters. The Issue FAQs page provides further details. The Registry does not serve claim forms or other documents: unlike other parts of the High Court, documents in Commercial Court cases are usually served by the parties themselves.

The Commercial Court Listing Office and the Admiralty & Commercial Registry are both located in the Rolls Building.

In addition to the staff of the two Offices, each Judge has a clerk to assist with personal administration. The clerks will sometimes liaise with parties or their lawyers about lodging of documents for a hearing, drawing up and filing orders, or other practical matters relating to a trial or other hearing.

Staff from the Office and Registry also assist the Commercial Court Users Group. The Group serves as a forum for discussion of the Court’s performance and procedures, and contributes to the evolution of the Commercial Court Guide. It produces regular Minutes of Meetings.
